Orlistat (Alli) limited to BMI 28+, but why?

March 11th, 2010

How is it going? I was walking through the mall today and I thought of a good gastric bypass question. Well, here it is. I think you will find it helpful.

Alli (which contains Orlistat) is a relatively new diet aid, which can help prevent up to 25% of the fat you consume and thus help you lose weight slightly faster when taken as part of a calorie and fat controlled diet.

Now, Alli will only be given to people with a BMI of 28 or over but I haven’t been able to find out why. A BMI of 25+ is still clinically over-weight, so why can’t those people take it too?

Is it because at that mass, the benefits of Alli no longer out-weigh the benefits of being slimmer?

Yahoo Answers always has very good gastric bypass questions. Hopefully this one has benefitted you.

Wondering about Gastric bypass?

March 10th, 2010

How is it going? I was walking through the mall today and I thought of a good gastric bypass question. Well, here it is. I think you will find it helpful.

I am scheduled to have a bypass in February and I am all set. Just wondering how much weight will come off? I know everyone is different but can some who had the surgery tell me what you lost? Also when did you start exercising or at least walking around the track

I often wondered about the same gastric bypass question. If you know more about this question, please share your knowledge.

Morbidly obese, trying to lose weight.?

March 9th, 2010

Hello! We have found another gastric bypass question for you to ponder.

I’m 23, 24 next month, 6′3 and almost 400lbs.
I would like to get down to 250 or closest I can get to it by summer 2011. I’m on a healthy diet and starting to get into a work out regiment, and I was wondering if there are any supliments that can help lose weight a bit faster, maybe like a pre or post work out suppliment that can help me. I don’t know much about weight loss pills/suppliments so i dont know what to take that is safe and most importantly that works. I’m not asking about those so called miricle pills that you take and youre magically thin. just something to help speed or just give me the edge to turn it around.

thanks in advance.

This gastric bypass question was exactly what was on my mind. The answers helped with my problem. I am glad the original poster shared.

I was morbidly obese and got liposuction, they didnt take the fat from my chin though?

March 8th, 2010

Howdy! Here is a good gastric bypass question. Please feel free to add your comments to the mix!

Hello, i recently finished my liposuction , had to go 7 times because it was too dangerous to do it all at once. I am 5′6. I was 300lbs and they took out 100lbs of fat and now im 197lbs. The only problem is they didnt take it out of my neck so my body is really thin but my neck still appears as if i have 3 chins and my face still looks really fat and bloated. They said i need no more liposuction treatments. Is this because it will even out on its own and the fat in my neck/chin will just go away, thanks a lot.

Hello! Here is an interesting gastric bypass question with some good answers.

i was curious because when you read an “ana” story
they always seem to start off thin.

Essay Help Please??????

February 15th, 2010

is this any good? any mistakes that you see anything you would change or add to make it better?
Diet and exercise or surgery? That is the question for thousands of overweight Americans. In this essay I will compare diet and exercise with two kinds of surgery, liposuction and gastric bypass.
Diet and exercise is cheaper than having surgery. When you eat healthier you can cut out expensive junk food and high calorie drinks from your shopping list. Having surgery will cost you thousands while a gym membership will cost you thirty dollars a month.
Diet and exercise have no risks. Eating healthy and working out wont bust open
your stomach, but surgery could. Gastric bypass could lead to nasty infections, and ulcers.
Liposuction could leave you with disfiguring scars. While diet and exercise will lead to
more energy during the day and restful nights.
For people who want results fast surgery would be best. Diet and exercise is slow compared to liposuction. Liposuction will literally suck that fat right out of you! Also with liposuction you can target one area like the stomach, hips, thighs, and even your face. With diet and exercise you can’t just do abdominal exercises and get a flat stomach.
People who have gastric bypass surgery have a bigger chance of keeping the weight off. In gastric bypass surgery the surgeon creates a smaller stomach pouch. Having a smaller stomach makes you feel fuller sooner and eat less food. 98% of people who have gastric bypass surgery keep the weight off compared to only 50% of people who loose it by diet and exercise.

Friend With A Bmi Over 50: What Can I Do To Help?

February 14th, 2010

A close friend of mine is considered morbidly obese, with a BMI of 50+.
He has tried to lose weight on his own for years now, and has, on several occasions, lost a little. He has, unfortunately, damaged both of his knees in the past which makes typical exercise (which most of us take for granted) something that is almost impossible. He’s able to do normal things (and quite well, I might add, for his weight), but if he over-stresses either (or both) of his knees, he is likely to further damage his MCLs.
His eating habits are not the best, but his caloric intake is not overwhelming (and is typical of a person of his age). I think that his lack of activity has essentially destroyed his metabolism, honestly.
He has considered gastric bypass as well as other alternatives, but the cost is more than he can afford. Payment plans are not an option at this point. He’d rather stay away from surgery, anyway.
This is a very serious matter, and I’m not looking for “tell him to drop the candy bar and go for a walk”-type answers. I want to help him (and he wants help), and I’m really worried about his health.
