does anyone know the normal cost for lapband surgery? Has anyone had good sucess. Whats the pros and cons? Had a friend die from gastric bypass so i am too scared to do that and it costs too much anyway. Any info appreciated thanks

Do the people that have one of these procedures done lose weight because they are simply eating less do to the sense of being full all the time or is there more to it? What I mean is if I ate as little as someone who let’s say had gastric bypass done then wouldn’t I see the same results? Is it just about eating less or do these surgeries cause the body to act in other ways to help with the weight loss?

The insurance I have through my job (PHCS) has verbally stated that they will not cover ANY weight loss related procedures. My doctor is wanting me to do the lap band procedure so I would like to see about getting my own insurance that will cover the cost. Any suggestions?
A lap band is more often covered by insurance than gastric bypass, so you might be looking at at difference of $45,000 between the out-of-pocket price of the bypass and your deductible.

It depends on your area. There are a lot of fees. You have to pay for classes in the beginning, testing, Bod Pod, nutritionist, psych eval., then there is the hospital, doctor, anesthesia, it can run around $50K easily, but if you can qualify for public aid, the gastric costs you around $300, the Lap Band is not covered.
