Why Is It Still Taboo To Criticize Obese People?

Monday, February 1st, 2010

I understand that there are diseases, genetics, and other factors that affect weight but there is a point on the way to becoming so obese your life is threatened, that you realize you have to change.
In Ontario, if a certain BMI is reached, Ontario Health Insurance Plan covers the cost of getting a gastric bypass surgery or another extreme weight loss surgery. Gastric bypass is around $16000-$18000. As I tax payer, I don’t see why I should have to compensate for people who can’t control themselves. These people need help for mental disorders; not surgery.
We can judge people who smoke because of their addiction and express our belief/opinions of religion, etc., but it’s still so taboo to say ANYTHING to people about how wrong it is to be obese!!!
***When I say fat or obese, I don’t mean chubby. I mean people who are extremely unhealthy because of weight***

I Am Looking For People To Share Their Lapband Expirences…?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I am 34 years old. I weigh 225 lbs and have fluctuated between 205 and 240 for about 14 years. I have seen a couple of people who have had gastric bypass or the lapband procedure and I want to do it so bad. However, I am curious about others who have had either procedure and how the outcome was, side effects, regrets etc. Also how much does the procedure cost and would you consider it worth it.

Why Is It That So Recently People Are Becoming So Obese?

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

I dont mean overwieght or fat. I mean obese. I work in a building with 400 people and I would estimate that close to 100 of them are at least 100 pounds over weight, and several of them are cruising 375 and 400 mark.
What is the problem with the healthcare system?
Why arent these people’s doctors doing more to come up with radical weight loss strategies, such gastric bypass and doctor prescribed liquid diets?
I blame the medical professionals and the medical insurance companies for not being more agreessive about this problem.
As someone that has to pay a monthly fee to have health coverage, I blame these types of people for not being aggressive because the people that are obese are making my healthcare costs higher, because they are a drain on the system.
The obese people have more health problems as a result of their obeseity. Obeseity contributes to high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, leg and hip problems.
Please tell me your thoughts on this.

Do Obese People Know That They Are Costing The Rest Of Us $?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

People seem to be of the attitude that it’s no big deal to be obese. However, the more people who are obese, the more all of us have to pay in insurance premiums! Being obese causes many health problems, and people who have gastric bypass or lap-band surgery are costing EVERYONE who has insurance money. Over 60% of the US is overweight, therefore we all end up suffering. Isn’t it time that insurance companies start offering HEALTHY weight people a discount and charging overweight people more? Make them “carry their own weight” so to speak?

How Come People Gain Weight After Gastric Bypass?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Do they eat A LOT and gain the weight back ?
or can they gain it back eating like a person who hasn’t had bypass?
If they had Gastric Bypass and lost all of the weight would they still have to stick to a strict diet to keep from gaining it back?
Or are they just eating like hogs and feeding their faces every time they get the chance .. and gaining it back?
