What’s The Best Way To Finance Plastic Surgery After Gastric Bypass?

I had gastric bypass surgery in 2004. My fore arm skin and stomach has not retracted like it should. I’ve contacted several surgeons in the Atlanta, GA area but unfortunately, they really prefer I pay out of pocket. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield who will cover some of the expenses but the surgeons won’t even submit the paperwork to the insurance company. Any suggestions?

I woundn’t go and see a surgeon unless he/she would try submitting it to the insurance co. In some cases, insurance companies will cover a tummy tuck (for the reasons you are having the tummy tuck, it is called something else…I can’t remember what it is called) if you have problems such as sores or irritations due to the excess skin.

They have some really good information; although, I am sure you have already checked out their site….

Call blue cross blue shield and find out which places actually let you use insurance. Or start to research outside of your area.

Of course they want you to pay out of pocket, they make the most money that way. I would contact your insurance company and find out what surgeons they could recommend. In order for insurance to pay for it, you are going to need a lot of documentation as to WHY you need the surgery, not just because your skin is unattractive. They will want to know if you have had skin infections, etc. and my guess is the forearm skin is cosmetic not functional. good luck, I had gastric bypass done in 2002, lost and maintained 135# loss and still can’t get ins. to cover it.
