Wondering about Gastric bypass?

How is it going? I was walking through the mall today and I thought of a good gastric bypass question. Well, here it is. I think you will find it helpful.

I am scheduled to have a bypass in February and I am all set. Just wondering how much weight will come off? I know everyone is different but can some who had the surgery tell me what you lost? Also when did you start exercising or at least walking around the track

I often wondered about the same gastric bypass question. If you know more about this question, please share your knowledge.

Have a happy day!

lol funny….most people who go for Gastric bypass…..dont workout….thats the whole point of having the surgery because they are too lazy or unmotivated to just simply lose the weight themselves……i havent had the procedure but i do know a few people who have had it done…..obviously they lost lots of weight….but it took like a year to slowly happen….look at Star Jones or whatever her name is from The View and that Black guy on Channel 7 or 11….they went from huge to thin…your going to lose a lot of weight there is no doubt about that…..but….if i was you i wouldnt have it done….its not necessary…healthy…or….safe

IPawl20 has no idea of what he/she is talking about. KT gave you a very good answer. I hate it when these people come on here telling people not to get it done because it is so dangerous when they do not have any experience at all with this condition or the surgery.

My husband had it done a little over a year ago and has lost 130 lbs. He no longer needs to use a sleep machine for apnea. He no longer takes blood pressure medication. He is so much more active and can walk long distances without even breathing hard. His latest blood work is absolutely perfect on everything. He feels great and looks great. The “looks great” is just a perk that comes with losing the weight since you don’t get this done to look good. You get it done for your health and to make a better quality of life for yourself. He is very happy with what this surgery has done for him.

It is a total lifestyle change, but that is what this surgery does for you. It gives you the tool to make those changes. He is able to eat just small portions and is completely satisfied and filled up. He tells me he doesn’t even miss all that food he used to eat. He just doesn’t want it. He still eats everything he likes now, but is full after a few bites. He’s not into exercising other than taking the dog on walks and likes to bicycle, but he is always active doing one thing or another. He loses the weight whether he exercises or not. It’s the low calories that really takes the weight off the best. I forgot to mention that his cholesterol is also perfect now.

I wish you the best of luck with getting yours done. I’m sure you will do fine.

ipawel20 – do you even know what you’re talking about? While I’m sure there are instances of people who are lazy and don’t try to diet any other way – Gastric Bypass certainly is NOT a cop-out or the easy way out. And most people do not do it because they don’t WANT to diet in the traditional sense. Many (myself included) have tried (for years) to diet – exercise and have tried every program in the book. Sometimes it just doesn’t work due to mechanical makeup.

As far as it not being safe…no surgery is safe – however going down the obesity path is by far more dangerous. Any study will tell you so.

Let me tell you that since my surgery 6 weeks ago I am no longer diabetic, I no longer need my blood pressure medicine, my sleep apnea is gone, I no longer ache continuously, the need for my inhaler is no longer present and I FEEL GREAT. I have lost 40 lbs that I tried years and years to do with no success previously.

Please don’t randomly make comments agains Gastric Bypass Surgery unless you personally have experience. You could be discouraging someone who can truly benefit from it.
